Sources: Nebraska Wesleyan did not submit NCAA host bid

There is a lot to project and track this time of year when it comes to the Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament beyond simply who is in and who might be out. With the Division III tournament set up in on-campus locations, the top teams play themselves into position to hosting opportunities.

The hitch in projecting where tournament games might take place is that it is dependent on a school applying with the NCAA to be considered to host.

The D3 Datacast has learned through multiple sources connected to Region 9 that Nebraska Wesleyan did not submit the requisite paperwork to be selected as an NCAA Tournament host. One source indicated that Nebraska Wesleyan is looking to file an appeal to garner consideration despite the passing of the initial deadline.

Nebraska Wesleyan is set to play Loras in the American Rivers Conference Tournament championship game later tonight. Highly ranked in Region 9 throughout the series of regional rankings, a win tonight would likely have the Prairie Wolves in line to be a first weekend host.

Earning the right to host tournament games is a huge accomplishment and it would be a shame to see Nebraska Wesleyan have to hit the road simply because they did not apply. Add where Nebraska Wesleyan ends up playing their opening round game to the list of interesting things to watch for when the 2024 tournament bracket is revealed on Monday afternoon.
