We are all about making dreams come true at the D3 Datacast. In some cases, those are literal dreams and that is what we have to present in this episode that kicks off what we hope is a fun offseason project and video series.
As kids we were both casual collectors of sports trading cards, particularly baseball cards. Maybe it was that history combined with being a fan of Division III basketball but one night following the 2022-2023 season Matt had a dream in which D3 Hoops basketball cards were an actual thing. It would be pretty cool if they were, right? Now they are.
It started as a joke or a chance to meme it up with a few mock-up trading cards Matt posted on Twitter. What transpired is a realization that it was actually pretty fun to create D3 Hoops trading cards and a project we could take on during the offseason. In a collaborative effort, we’ve mapped out a set of over 500 cards, featuring a team base set of every Division III men’s basketball team from the previous season as well as special insert sets.
This is the first of what will be a series of “pack opening” videos in which that full set will be revealed over the course of the offseason. Each “pack” contains a total of 12 cards, including 10 team base cards and two insert cards. Here are the first three packs. Enjoy!
